It’s All About the Kingdom

When our church property was sold we heard a lot of crazy questions.

“Will you split the money between the members?”

“Do the proceeds go to the elders?”

“Will the staff be able to retire comfortably?”

Of course the answer to these and other such questions was “no.” That is simply not the way it works. When a non-profit acquires assets, those assets must be used for the benefit of non-profits. Simply put, no individuals benefit but the Kingdom does. We spent many long months considering just how to best benefit the Kingdom of God, and we came to the conclusion that forming a foundation would enable us to generously give for many years to come.

But where should the money be invested? In the market? At the bank? In “I” bonds?

The concern was protecting the principal while providing significant interest. This is not an easy task, unless you know about CFR. CFR stands for the Christian Financial Resources organization in Orlando, Florida (cfrministry.org). CFR was the Kingdom choice we were looking for.

At CFR, money invested is used to fund ministries and change lives. They assist churches by offering loans for projects while guiding Christian leaders in the fulfillment of the Lord’s imperatives. CFR takes our money and provides resources to churches, and in return, gives us good interest on our investment. They enable us to set up Giving Funds at follow our directives in sending gifts to our chosen mission partners. The beauty of the relationship we have with CFR is that our money is doubly used. They use it for the Kingdom and so do we. We incur no fees. This is truly a win-win situation. God’s Kingdom benefits in two ways.

I am reminded of the parable of the talents in Matthew 25. To the best of our ability, we are taking what the master has given and doubling its use. What a wonderful opportunity we have been afforded by our Lord and by CFR!
